The broad goal of teaching undergraduates Pathology is to impart the knowledge skills and attitudes in the learner to understand the etiopathogenesis, morphology and pathological concepts related to various common diseases. The department has undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes for MBBS, MD, DCP, BDS, MDS, Nursing, BSC MLT & DMLT students. Our candidates have bagged 1st /2nd ranks and 1st classes for the MD Examination in Kerala University of Health Sciences.
Academic Activities
The department also takes initiative to conduct various academic activities as clinicopathological conferences, PG teaching programmes and continuing medical education programmes.
The department runs many research projects of both the faculty and postgraduates. Several papers and posters have been presented in the National and State conferences. There are more than 75 publications in International and national journals from the department.
Facilities
There is a well equipped departmental library with all required text books, reference books and departmental journals and a museum with more than 600 specimens.
The diagnostic services include Histopathology supplemented by immunohistochemistry with more than 70 antibodies, frozen section, Immunofluorescence for skin & renal biopsies, Cytopathology including exfoliative cytology and fine needle aspiration cytology and Haematology.
The blood bank, which is under Pathology department, is fully equipped and provides transfusion facilities of all components of blood, blood grouping and cross matching, and screening of blood for infections. It undertakes various blood donation camps and awareness programmes.
